Castilla, SORSOGON – One top ranking NPA rebel was killed during an encounter between government troops and a group of NPA rebels at 9:45AM last April 27, 2014 at Magallanes Sorsogon.
The slain NPA rebel was identified as a certain RECTO GOLIMLIM @CENON/PINGKO/REMUS and is believed to be the head of Explosive Department and member of the Executive Committee of the Bicol Regional Part Committee. His body was recovered by the Army troops which belong to the Scout Ranger Group of 31st Infantry Battalion and 9th K9 Battalion headed by Sgt Crisanto Bernal and Sgt Manuel
Abellano respectively, as they were conducting pursuit operations at about 3:30 in the afternoon on April 28, 2014 at Brgy Lapinig, Magallanes, Sorsogon.
The pursuit operation was a follow up operation of the encounter between the Army troops and five rebels at 9:15 AM on April 27, 2014 at same barangay. RECTO GOLIMLIM was believed to be killed during the firefight that lasted for 10 minutes. His body was brought along by his comrades when they withdrew from the encounter site and was left for proper disposition by their active supporters at said barangay.
The traces of bloodstains along the rebels route of withdrawal led the Army troops with their Aspin (Asong Pinoy) tracking dogs to the location where the body of the slain NPA leader was kept. His identity was later confirmed by informants who are close associates of RECTO GOLIMLIM.
Brigadier General Joselito E Kakilala, Commander of the 903rd Infantry Brigade which has jurisdiction over 31st IB said that the neutralization of RECTO GOLIMLIM delivered a big blow to the overall tactical capacity of the rebel organization in Bicol as the slain rebel was an expert in Explosives and was elevated as the Second in Command of the Bicol Regional Party Committee.
“I commend our troops for this remarkable feat. They have once again showcased bravery and dedication in their mandate to protect our country and people against the insurgents who despite of our incessant appeal for them to lay their arms and return to the comforts of their families but still continue to fight our troops,” Brigadier General Kakilala said.
“I stand my ground as Commander of the Army in the Province of Sorsogon that our troops will continue to scour the mountains and go after those rebels who persist to be a grave threat to our peace loving countrymen and who totally disregard the call of Sorsogon Governor Raul Lee for a localized Peace Talks.” Brigadier Kakilala concluded. The government troops suffered no casualty during the encounter. Finally, the informants will receive the P2.5 Million reward.
