FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – The Chinese International School of Manila donated 106 shoeboxes to the Philippine Army for the “Project Shoebox: Shoebox ko, Para sa Pag-aaral mo”, a project launched in 2013 and which had already benefited 100,096 indigent students.
Col Thomas R Sedano Jr., Executive Officer, Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations, Philippine Army, received the shoebox donation from the Student Council members of Chinese International School Manila.
Each shoebox contains notebooks, pencils, crayons, and personal care items. These will be distributed to selected elementary schools within identified conflict-affected areas, particularly in Northern Mindanao, in May before the opening of classes.
In 2014, the Philippine Army together with the Sigma Alpha Sorority initiated the “Bulig Eastern Visayas: Project Shoebox Season 3” which helped public elementary school children cope with the effects of typhoon Yolanda. Also, together with existing partners and sponsors like the Department of Education, 2Go Express, Inc., National Bookstore Foundation, and UP Sigma Alpha Sorority, the Philippine Army was able to reach out to indigent students in the provinces of Isabela, Tarlac, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Compostela Valley, and Davao Oriental.
