NSFA,PANACAN, Davao City, – Five of the seven New People’s Army killed during an encounter between the troops of 73rd Infantry Battalion led by 2LT JERSON F SANCHEZ and NPA bandits on February 16, 2015 at Tugal, Brgy Datal Anggas, Alabel, Sarangani Province were identified as leaders in different levels of the Guerilla Front 71.
During identification process, Barangay folks of Datal Anggas positively identified six of the seven cadavers as follows:
- Alias Brigol, identified as a Deputy Secretary and Political Officer
- Alias JM, identified as Team Leader and Logistic Officer
- Alias Jonas/Batot, identified as Team Leader
- Alias Lieutenant, identified as Vice Team Leader
- Alias Mark, identified as Medic
- Alias Monet, a new recruit
The community failed to identify the seventh which is a female cadaver.
The NPA bandits Leaders were killed after they were chanced upon by the pursuing troops at about 3:30in the afternoon after an earlier skirmish at about 8:00 AM on February 16,2015.
The second encounter led to the recovery of the following:
Nine high powered firearms as follows:
– Two (2) AK 47,
– One (1) M653,
– Six (6) M16 Rifles
Four(4) Improvised Landmines
Two rifle grenades
Medical Equipment and Medicines
The first of the two encounters transpired after troops who were sent to check on the reported presence of armed bandits coercing an Indigenous Peoples’ community were fired upon by undetermined number of NPA bandits.
No casualties were reported during the initial encounter.
“While these bandits were killed in a legitimate encounter, there are families that are waiting for them. Thus, our units on the ground are now coordinating with local authorities especially with the Social Welfare and Development and the Philippine National Police of Sarangani Province for the proper disposition of the cadavers so that they can be brought home to their respective families for a decent burial. We are calling on our deceived NPA brothers who are part of this group to come outlay down their fire arms and live peacefully with their families.” LtGeneral Aurelio Baladad, Commander of Eastern Mindanao Command said.
