Camp Navarro,Calarian, Zamboanga City- April 29, 2015 (10:30am)- Lieutenant General Rustico O. Guerrero, Commander, Western Mindanao Command, together with Rear Admiral Reynaldo L. Yoma, Commander, Joint Task Force ZAMBASULTA, led the send-off ceremony for Marine Battalion Landing Team-1 (MLBT-1) headed by Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Juan PN(M) and BRP Miguel Malvar (PS 19) skippered by Commander Charles Villanueva PN at Headquarters Naval Forces Western Mindanao (HNFWM), Romulo Espaldon, Bagong Calarian, Zamboanga City.
Said Marine Battalion will be deployed to Manila for retraining, while PS 19 will undergo its scheduled maintenance in Cebu.
Pertaining to MBLT-1’s retraining, Lieutenant General Guerrero said: “This is a program of the Philippine Navy and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to retrain and refurbish units in the field. In this way, we can rise the efficiency and effectiveness level of the operating units.”
“Today, we bid farewell to the 1st Marine Battalion and BRP Miguel Malvar after several years of deployment in the Naval Forces Western Mindanao’s area of responsibility,” said Rear Admiral Yoma, “Let us acknowledge the great sacrifices made by the members of these units who have endured all sorts of tides and weathers, but despite of all the hardships they have lived up to the standard of the sailor and the marine.”
Awards were also pinned to the gallant sailors and marines of PS 19 and MBLT-1.
Meanwhile, plaques of appreciation were presented to various partner stakeholders which were handed over by WestMinCom Commander, Lieutenant General Guerrero, as assisted by Rear Admiral Yoma.
