CAMP PERALTA, Jamindan, Capiz – Armed not with guns and bullets but with cleaning paraphernalia, the Spearhead Troopers of the 3rd Infantry Division acted as an active partner of DepEd in building a better education through the National Schools Maintenance Week commonly known as Brigada Eskwela 2015 which started last May 18, 2015.The Spearhead Troopers assigned with the different line units of 3ID were utilized to extend manpower assistance in repairing, repainting, grass-cutting and ground cleaning in various public schools all over Western Visayas and Central Visayas Regions.
This is part of the Army’s non-traditional role as an organization supporting various government agencies to deliver their programs all for the good of the people. This, further, envisions students learning in a clean, safe and comfortable environment and most importantly, suitable to a quality education. This is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the barangay volunteers who share the same vision.
In Panay Island, personnel from 82nd Infantry Battalion, 61st Infantry Battalion and 3rd Civil Military Operations Battalion respectively shared their time and manpower support to the different public elementary and secondary schools that include Miag-ao Central Elementary School, Malagyan Elementary School, Indag-an Tan-agan Elementary School, Kirayan Elementary School, Kirayan National High School, Arsenio Napud Memorial High School and Alejandro Memorial National High School, all of Miag-ao, Iloilo; Nalundan National High School of Guimbal, Iloilol; San Nicolas and Col Patrocinio Artuz National High Schools of Tapaz, Capiz ; Mambusao National High School of Mambusao, Capiz; Feliciana Java Elementary School and Bito-on Elementary School all of Iloilo City.
In Negros Island, members of 33rd CMO Company, 3CMOBn stationed at Barangay Hacienda Fe, Escalante City also shared their time and efforts in helping the teachers and parents in preparing public schools for the school opening on June. These schools include Hacienda Fe Elementary School and Escalante Central Elementary School all of Escalante City and Manapla National High School- Purisima Extension, Manapla, Negros Occidental. Meanwhile, troops from 79th Infantry Battalion stationed in Siaton, Negros Oriental also participated in the said noble undertaking at Felipe Tayko Memorial School and Lorenza P Palarpalar Memorial High School respectively.
Other Army units are still conducting the same activity on various public schools of the region.
This year’s Brigada Eskwela bears the theme “Tayo Para sa Kalinisan, Kaligtasan at Kahandaan ng Ating Paaralan”.
Major General Rey Leonardo Guerrero, Commander of 3ID stressed out “This endeavor shows the Army’s commitment to always serve the people and secure our land”.
He also expressed gratitude to the Department of Education for allowing the Army personnel to participate in this activity and show its deep concern to the community and the children of today’s generation.
