CAFGU killed, other hurt in Compostela clash

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City – A member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) was killed while another soldier of 60th Infantry Battalion, 10th Infantry Division (10ID), Philippine Army was wounded after the NPA bandit group fired upon the patrolling soldiers in Brgy. Aguinaldo, Laak, Compostela Valley Province at 8:55 a.m., 05 July 2015.

The soldiers recovered one (1) AK-47 rifle and three (3) backpacks from the bandits after the 30-minutes firefight. Pursuit operations are still ongoing as of this reporting.

The wounded soldier was immediately brought to Tagum Doctor’s Hospital while the cadaver of the said CAFGU member was brought to Escreba Funeral Homes, Maniki, Kapalong, Davao del Norte.

According to civilians, there were wounded NPA members who managed to escape after the firefight.

60IB Commander Lt. Col. Roberto Bunagan said that the security patrol of his soldiers has protected the villagers from the bandits’ attack and extortion activities.

“Aside from CPP/NPA’s extortion activities, they also want to instill fear among the villagers as part of their tactics”, Lt. Col. Bunagan said.

It can be recalled that on June 6, 2015, NPA member alias Abdul voluntarily surrendered to the soldiers of 60IB who brought along with him one (1) M60 machinegun with ammunition in Brgy. Cabadiangan, New Corella, Davao del Norte.

Meanwhile, Eastern Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Aurelio B. Baladad earlier directed Maj. Gen. Eduardo Ano, the Commander of 10th ID to continue pursuit operations against the CPP/NPA bandits in Davao region to protect the people from the bandit’s attack and deception. He also encourages wounded NPA members in the area to surface for their medical treatment and return to the folds of the law.
