Army alerts its disaster response and rescue units

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – The Philippine Army alerted all its Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) units nationwide on Thursday in anticipation of the effects of typhoon “Ineng” that may cause flash floods in low-lying areas and landslides.

Typhoon Ineng (international codename Goni) has entered Philippine Area of Responsibility and was located 220 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 170 km per hour near the center and wind gusts of up to 205 km/h as per PAGASA weather bulletin as of 11 pm on August 20.

The Army also directed its disaster response units to coordinate directly with the Local Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Centers nationwide for better coordination and cooperation with all the stakeholders.

The Philippine Army is considered as the primary government agency that can be immediately deployed as the first responders during disasters nationwide. #
